Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

During the book Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins one of the main characters, Katniss Everdeen, is facing a lot of conflicts. Katniss has a lot of conflicts to deal with since there were two victors in the Hunger Games and when she escaped the quarter quells. Since Katniss has won the Hunger Games with her star crossed lover, Peeta, the president of Panama has been threatening her. She made the Capitol look weak and the president hates when people make the Capitol look dumb and ignorant. Here are some of the conflicts that are emerging that Katniss has… Katniss has so much stress due to the traumatization of the Hunger Games. One of her conflicts is all the stress that she is being put through. President Snow has hated Katniss from when she first volunteered as tribute for her sister, Primrose, and wants to kill Katniss because she gives the opportunity of freedom to all of the twelve districts. Snow wants to keep everything the exact same way and once Katniss escaped the quarter quell, he was filled with rage. He even bombed district twelve because of the uprising that the president expected. Hundreds of people died and Katniss feels like it is all because of her. This is a huge conflict for her because she already has so much stress. When Katniss says “the headaches coming on and my thoughts begin to tangle. I shut my eyes and start to recite silently…” (37, 38) you can see how much she has to deal with. This is one of the many conflicts Katniss has to deal with during the book. Another conflict that Katniss has is that she has to deal with President Snow. President wants to kill president snow and Katniss is so young. Katniss is brave but the only people that she is willing to die for is Primrose, Gale (her fake cousin), and Peeta. Katniss understands this and has planned to have a war between the Capitol and the rebels. The upcoming war is going to be so harsh that Katniss has to get a custom made bow and a suit of armor that is protective but stylish. Dealing with president snow is a conflict for Katniss because she is going to have to kill him. When she says “I want the chance to kill Snow” (38) you can tell that she understands her duties as the mockingjay, the sign for all rebels. She has to kill President Snow and it won’t be and easy job. People are counting on Katniss and she cannot fail them. This is why; having to deal with President Snow is a conflict for Katniss. The final conflict that Katniss is facing is that Peeta isn’t with her. After the escape the rebels’ hovercraft didn’t get a chance to get Peeta, so instead they got Katniss. Eventually the Capitols hovercrafts came and took Peeta and the other tributes hostage. Katniss says “Peeta was taken away… he is alive… I have to keep him alive” (39). This shows that Katniss has to keep Peeta alive because they are supposed to be star crossed lovers and she is willing to die for him.
