This article elaborated on the controversy on how the government surveillance watches you. Americans understand that the government is trying to reduce the number of terrorist attacks in the U.S. by using surveillance but some people feel that the government has too much surveillance. Some of this includes phone tracking, body searches, and surveillance cameras themselves. Americans understand that the government is trying to help. Ever since the September 9th, 2011 terrorist attacks, the government has increased surveillance. What Americans don’t understand is why the government is secretly collecting their telephone records and tracking foreigners on sites like Facebook. At first we Americans did not know this was happening. That is until former contractor for the National Security Agency (N.S.A.) leaked this information that set the controversy uproar. While some feel that it is an unreasonable amount of surveillance in the U.S.A. others feel that it is necessary. They feel that it is the government’s job to keep the country safe. Obama says that the programs that is approved and authorized by Congress is for the good of the people. The internet surveillance program has helped stop almost 50 plots against the U.S. I’m not saying that it isn’t the government’s job to protect its citizens but I feel like the government is over doing it. There is a lot of security in this country but is seems all too much. I do think that it is necessary for some surveillance because it is possible for more threats. It can be overwhelming for new immigrants coming to America and may stop them from coming. The government should at least inform people that there is more surveillance without giving too much. I think that if it were possible that the government could create a way to communicate with the citizens, it would be better and Americans wouldn’t feel offended and feel that the government is lying to them.
